About The Position

The Student Assistant will support the Psychology Department as a Research Assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Spring 2026. The Student Assistant will assist with thematic coding in independent and group-oriented activities in Dr. Nicolette Rickert's research lab for Spring 2026. Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.

Requirements

• Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.

Nice To Haves

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or MS degree in psychology
• Completed at least two courses in psychology at either the graduate or undergraduate level
• Completed at least one research and analysis course related to human subjects and social sciences at either the graduate or undergraduate level, both for statistics and research design
• Completed a lifespan development or child/adolescent development course at the graduate or undergraduate level
• Familiarity and experience with Dr. Rickert's research lab and studies
• Previously worked or volunteered in a research lab (at least one month of experience)
• Experience with thematic coding of qualitative questions (at least one month of experience)
• Ability to work independently and with others

Responsibilities

• Independently codes participants' qualitative survey responses
• Comes to a consensus on appropriate codes with fellow coders in two weekly meetings
• Cleans codes and identify most frequent themes from coded responses
• Responds to check-in emails and updates each week
