About The Position

Moreno Valley College's Office of TRIO Programs is the umbrella to five TRIO grants (ACES Student Support Services, Upward Bound Math and Science, Educational Talent Search, Upward Bound, and Veteran’s Upward Bound), which are part of the federal TRIO programs to provide outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from first-generation, income qualifying, and other underrepresented or at promised backgrounds to help them prepare for and graduate from college while preparing them for a viable career pathways. Moreno Valley College’s TRIO Programs serve students ranging from rising 6th graders through community college level students to help them develop core academic skills to be successful in school and help them to connect to future college opportunities. A TRIO Work Study Fellow could be placed at: ACES Student Support Services – community college students who are interested in completing a certificate or degree and transferring to a four-year college/university. Upward Bound Math and Science – 9 th through 12th grade high school students at Vista del Lago High School (Moreno Valley) who have expressed interest in pursuing college and career opportunities in STEM. Upward Bound– 9 th through 12th grade high school students at Valley View High School (Moreno Valley) who have expressed interest in attending college (open to any college major/career pathway). Educational Talent Search – 6 th – 12th grade students at Vista del Lago, Valley View, Badger Springs MS, Landmark MS, Mountain View MS, and Palm MS (Moreno Valley) who are interested in going to college and learning about careers. Veterans Upward Bound – works with Veterans who are transitioning from serving in the military and are interested in going to college and/or developing skills to transition to employment in civilian pathways.

Requirements

  • Read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Admission or registration as a CSU student.
  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Social Security Card

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a mentor/tutor during the academic year, Saturday Academies, family meetings, field experiences, extended breaks, and other targeted programs to promote college/career pathways and financial aid/literacy.
  • Assist with facilitating ice breakers, warm up activities, and workshops.
  • Assist with transition programs for middle school to high school bridge programs and high school to college bridge programs.
  • Assist with developing and delivering mini presentations/announcements about college and college support programs.
  • Assist with large TRIO programs, such as Cash for College workshops, TRIO College Information Days, College Application Bootcamps, STEM Nights, National TRIO Day, family sessions, leadership programs, and other collaborative programs.
  • Assist with field experiences to college, career, community services, and/or cultural events.
  • Provide tutoring in core academic subjects (i.e. math, language arts, science, language other than English, etc.)
  • Assist with developing mini presentations/announcements about college, community resources, social services, academic services, financial aid, and other opportunities.
  • Assist with providing message connections with participants and families on program social media, Google classroom, other platforms, and phone calls.
  • Other duties as assigned.
