The Department of Space Operations provides missions with Mission Operations, Science Operations, and Instrument Development. This internship is open to local students and focuses on supporting real-time operations, monitoring, and command and control of either the PUNCH or CYGNSS satellite constellation.

  • Execute and perform telemetry verification of all satellite commanding performed in support of controlling either the PUNCH or CYGNSS constellation.
  • Create, review, and execute real-time spacecraft commanding pass plans and coordinate their execution as part of routine operations and anomaly resolution activities.
  • Perform real-time satellite state of health evaluation, trending, and analysis for first level satellite sub-system engineering troubleshooting.
  • Conduct satellite software uploads and switchovers to the updated software, verifying the integrity of all products and commands loaded to the spacecraft.
  • Support real-time anomaly investigation and resolution and follow established Contingency Operations policies and procedures.
  • Support process improvement initiatives by properly documenting all satellite events through anomaly and issue reporting process, participate in procedure development and reviews.
  • Maintain & develop tools, procedures, pass plans, & checklists to support satellite operations.
  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Planetary Science, Computer Science, Engineering Physics, Applied Mathematics, or directly related degree field.
  • 0 years: Enrolled in Bachelor's program with at least 1 semester completed.
  • Computer programming experience in Python and/or Django preferred.
  • Proficient in the UNIX operating system highly desirable.
