About The Position

The position is responsible for assisting all educators in implementing a multi-sensory individualized educational plan (IEP) for students in a nonpublic school. The role serves as a liaison between teachers, BCBAs, Behaviorists, OT/SLP, and parents.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of child guidance principles and practices.
  • Basic academic subjects knowledge, including arithmetic.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Safe practices in classroom activities and record-keeping techniques.
  • Health and safety regulations knowledge.
  • Minimum of 48 college units.
  • Basic skills in working with children with disabilities or adolescents, typically learned in two years of experience.
  • Ability to pass and utilize ProAct Training within one month of employment.
  • Ability to pass and utilize First Aid and CPR Certification within three months of employment.
  • Ability to work as a member of a therapeutic team.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid California Driver License and proof of insurance acceptable per insurance carrier.
  • Clearance of all required background records (e.g., Department of Justice, Child Abuse, California Community Care Licensing, County Sanction List, etc.), professional physical examination, and drug testing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist educators in implementing the IEP and review daily lesson plans, contributing information and ideas as appropriate.
  • Observe and control behavior according to established procedures.
  • Report progress regarding student behavior and performance to the teacher.
  • Provide vocational instruction according to expertise and student program (e.g., woodshop, photography, clerical).
  • Participate in special programs (e.g., assemblies, plays, cultural events) with students as required.
  • Maintain individual student records including progress reports and daily attendance records in accordance with school policies, ensuring confidentiality is maintained.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents and problems with students to de-escalate them as quickly as possible, using crisis intervention skills in communication.
  • Participate in physical interventions as necessary, in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings, in-service programs, and workshops to maintain professional knowledge and skills.
  • Assist in maintaining the health and safety of students by being aware of the environment and potential student actions.
  • Provide behavioral examples, display values and morals, and offer emotional support and guidance to students.
  • Direct group activities of students at lunch and other times.
  • Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned.
