About The Position

The Director of Student Development & Advocacy is a pivotal role at D'Youville University, tasked with implementing the institution's mission and vision while leading student development and advocacy initiatives. This position is highly visible and requires a proactive individual who can navigate the complexities of a dynamic work environment. The Director will oversee programming initiatives delivered through The Park, which provides innovative services for all students, and the Cultural Enrichment Center, which focuses on supporting students from non-dominant backgrounds while educating the dominant culture. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong background in student support and programming, ensuring that the university is prepared to engage every student outside of the classroom. In this role, the Director will report directly to the Dean of Students and will be responsible for managing the departmental budget. The position also involves participation in various university committees, requiring flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed to fulfill responsibilities and attend university functions. The Director will oversee a comprehensive student development model that collaborates closely with Student Engagement and Student Leadership, ensuring that the university is “student-ready.” Key responsibilities include overseeing the MetaReady programming, which delivers developmental modules to undergraduate students through the metaverse, and working with the Office of Student Housing to provide additional support for students who may struggle with this programming. The Director will also serve as an advisor for the Student Government Association, coordinate training for student clubs, and manage the student Engage system to promote campus involvement, particularly among first-year students. Additionally, the Director will participate in significant university events to foster student engagement and familiarity with available resources.
