About The Position

The Student Advisor plays a crucial role in supporting students with autism and learning disabilities by facilitating their journey towards independence. This full-time position involves collaboration with students, families, and professionals to ensure comprehensive support and progress monitoring. The advisor is responsible for creating Individual Service Plans, conducting meetings, and providing guidance on various aspects of student life, including financial management and personal development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Psychology, Social Work, Education, or a related field.
  • Proficient with office utility computer software programs and a quick learner in new technologies.
  • 2 years of experience in the field of autism and/or learning disabilities at the higher education level is highly preferred.
  • Special education and/or advising background, particularly at the higher education level is highly preferred.
  • An Active Driver's License is required.

Responsibilities

  • Write and coordinate Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and Semi-Annual Progress reports.
  • Prepare and facilitate periodic meetings with students and parents.
  • Communicate with student families regarding overall progress, activities attended, schedule changes, internship issues and opportunities.
  • Assist students with banking/money management and monitor student monthly budget.
  • Lead Team Review Meetings (TRMs) and communicate student progress on advising goals to CIP staff weekly.
  • Attend weekly meetings to receive updates on the student's academic, residential, culinary, community service and vocational progress.
  • Consult regularly with other department coordinators to ensure comprehensive programming for students.
  • Confront and respond to problems, policy violations, and other issues that might arise.
  • Reinforce student's path on the continuum of growth from self-awareness through self-determination.
  • Monitor student progress through goal achievement.
  • Apprise families, external professionals and CIP staff of student progress.
  • Promote and encourage student engagement by utilizing Advising Processes and Tools.
  • Coordinate with the CIP team to determine appropriate supports for students.
