About The Position

The Student Advisor position at East Side House (ESH) involves providing support in various areas including college and career readiness, academic progress monitoring, and social-emotional development for high school students who are over-age and under-credited or have dropped out. The advisor will be the primary contact for a caseload of approximately 50 students, conducting intake interviews, daily outreach, and consultations with guidance counselors and teachers. The role requires collaboration with partner school faculty and staff to ensure academic success and includes conducting workshops and informal counseling sessions. The position is full-time and requires flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.

Requirements

  • B.A/ B.S.W. degree is required with at least two years youth services experience
  • Excellent verbal, analytical, written, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and multi-task
  • Strong interpersonal skills and time management skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community service/ development
  • Minimum intermediate knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office including Word and Teams / Google Suite, Zoom, and other applications

Responsibilities

  • Be a primary person of contact for a caseload of approximately 50 students
  • Conduct intake interviews with students and family members
  • Conduct daily attendance, academic, and social-emotional outreach via phone, remotely, or home visit
  • Consult with guidance counselors on student credit accumulation, graduation date, and post-secondary plans
  • Consult with teachers and provide feedback to students on academic performance
  • Refer students to academic and support services as needed
  • Attend administrative meetings, program training and staff development
  • Meet with caseloads in a group or individual setting to assist them in their academic, career, and personal goals
  • Conduct workshops, social-emotional groups, interest groups, or other groups for caseload
  • Educate students about colleges, the college admissions process, FAFSA, trends, procedures, and testing
  • Walk students through employment opportunities
  • Conduct informal counseling sessions for students to support their social-emotional development
  • Document all interactions with students on Salesforce, Google Suite, and other data systems as required
  • Participate in civic and community building efforts and activities as assigned
  • Participate and help arrange field trips, special events and extracurricular activities
  • Provide other program support functions as required
  • Maintain flexible hours and workdays, some overnight trips required
