About The Position

The primary purpose of this position is to oversee administrative functions related to supervising, evaluating, and supervising residential staff to ensure student safety on and off campus. This role is essential in maintaining a secure, supportive, and well-managed campus living environment. The Student Activities Coordinator plays a vital role in cultivating a thriving campus culture that promotes diversity, inclusion, and student success by planning student events and after school activities. This position collaborates closely with multiple departments to ensure students have access to resources, programs, recreation and services that support their academic, personal, and professional development. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with strong organizational and leadership abilities. A commitment to student engagement and holistic development is essential. In addition, the coordinator will build and maintain relationships with student groups, providing mentorship, fostering opportunities for growth and leadership development, and offering guidance that supports career readiness. As a Student Activities Coordinator, you will contribute meaningfully to shaping the student experience by serving as a dynamic role model, promoting student-centered support, and enhancing the overall quality of campus life. The Student Activities Coordinator position is an ANTICIPATED VACANCY for 6/1/2026. This is a full time (40 hours per week); 11-month position (no work in July). Position is on second shift and is eligible for shift premium pay. Pursuant to House Bill 11, all employees, hired in classified (and certified) positions on or after July 1, 2024, are employed pursuant to Chapter 115C of the General Statutes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in child development, special education, education or a closely related field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience with the population served, in a residential program, or in a goal-oriented program; or
  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of the above experience; or
  • Associate’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of the above experience, one of which must have been supervisory; or
  • High school or General Education Development (GED) diploma and five years of the above experience, two of which must have been supervisory.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and coordinate student activities schedules, including reviewing and comparing costs, safety concerns etc.
  • Partner with campus departments to deliver specialized training and resources.
  • Monitor students regularly to ensure safety, well-being, and engagement in residential programs.
  • Maintain training schedules, materials, and documentation.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to residential life staff and student leaders.
  • Support staff in applying learned skills to real-life situations within the dorm.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to address performance gaps through targeted training.
  • Provide guidance to students individually and in groups on personal, social, and behavioral matters; enforce residential policies and report serious infractions.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians as needed regarding student concerns or updates.
  • Supervise study halls, after-school activities, and residential programming.
  • Oversee student supervision in shared spaces, including cafeterias.
  • Coordinate transportation for student activities during assigned shifts.
  • Arrange interpreters and ensure accessibility of services when needed.
  • Respond to student emergencies and coordinate appropriate care.
  • Ensure staff provide proper supervision and maintain safe, clean, and supportive living environments.
  • Respond promptly to communications within residential facilities and across departments.
  • Oversee and coordinate student routines such as laundry and daily living tasks.
  • Review staff and student logbooks and reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct shift transitions, addressing prior incidents and ongoing concerns with incoming staff.
  • Ensure daily programming and activities are planned and implemented
  • Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned.
  • Prepares and implements staff schedules, coordinates dorm coverage and approve time entries for staff weekly.
  • Respond to and manage communications (phone calls, emails, memos, letters) from staff, parents, and the public in a timely and professional manner.
  • Oversee building safety procedures, including conducting fire drills and submitting required reports to the Safety Officer and relevant personnel.
  • Complete nightly dormitory reports and required documentation.
  • Conduct staff observations, providing constructive feedback and recommendations for improvement on an ongoing basis.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support the overall mission and effectiveness of NCSD Student Life.
