About The Position

WSU Tri Cities GEAR UP program is seeking a Student Achievement Specialist (SAS) at Evergreen High School in Vancouver, WA. This role involves providing student mentoring, monitoring, and collecting student data for assessment and reporting. The SAS will be responsible for enhancing GEAR UP students' engagement in education, promoting positive academic behaviors, strengthening family connection to school-based information, and supporting post-secondary access for students and families. Key duties include family outreach and education on college readiness, student and academic support services, student advising, assessing participant needs, and creating individual action plans. The specialist will collaborate with school personnel and community partners and participate in after-school, evening, and weekend activities. The GEAR UP Program is federally funded to increase the number of low-income and underrepresented students who graduate high school and successfully complete post-secondary education. This is a full-time (100% FTE), temporary, overtime-eligible, on-site/in-person position located in Vancouver, WA. The temporary end date is expected to be December 18, 2026, with renewal dependent on funding and need for extension.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience (Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of professional work experience; any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis)
Two (2) years of experience providing instruction or direct outreach services to students and working with parents/adults in individual or group setting
Proficiency in the use of computers and MS Office software programs Excel, Outlook, Word
Willingness and ability to travel overnight and work a flexible schedule, including frequent nights and weekends

Nice To Haves

Three (3) years experience working with middle/high school, higher education, and/or GEAR UP programs
Knowledge of school programs, student support and success, the school community and/or parental involvement in community and/or school setting
Familiarity with organization and operation of school/district administration and university/college systems
Knowledge of educational and social service resources in the district's community
Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people, including peers, university and school administrators, faculty, staff, students and parents, and the general public
Experience managing, tracking and reporting program data
Bilingual/Biliterate in English and Spanish
