About The Position

The Student Accounts Specialist position at SUNY Broome Community College is a provisional role within the Finance Office, responsible for managing complex financial transactions related to student accounts. The role requires a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as strong customer service skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a NYS registered or regionally accredited college or university with an associate's degree in accounting, business, or a closely related field and two years of experience maintaining financial accounts and records; OR
  • Completion of 60 credit hours at a NYS registered or regionally accredited college or university which must have included at least eight credit hours in accounting or bookkeeping and two years of experience maintaining financial accounts and records; OR
  • Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and four years of experience maintaining financial accounts and records; OR
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above.
  • Proficiency with Word and Excel.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize data and prepare and maintain reports and spreadsheets.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, parents, the general public and campus constituencies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to develop proficiency with the Banner Student Information System.
  • Ability to maintain working knowledge of Federal, State and local regulations pertaining to the department.

Responsibilities

  • Processes complex financial transactions.
  • Processes payments for students and 3rd parties.
  • Tracks, audits and monitors a variety of documents related to student accounting.
  • Prepares moderately complex reports.
  • Responds to telephone and in-person inquiries regarding student accounts and financial status.
  • Works with 3rd party collection agencies.

Benefits

  • Hourly salary of $22.00
