About The Position

The Student Account Counselor position involves assisting students with their accounts to minimize active receivables through consistent interaction with families and managing military benefits. The role requires counseling students during the registration and enrollment process, processing refunds, auditing accounts, and collaborating with various departments to ensure accuracy and efficiency in student account management.

Requirements

  • Holds personal theological beliefs that are in agreement with the Biola Doctrinal Statement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or closely related field preferred.
  • Proficient with Banner (preferred), Excel, Word, and Google Apps.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Strong relational abilities.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Thorough and attentive to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel students during the registration and enrollment process for each term.
  • Counsel students and parents with questions concerning their active accounts with Biola.
  • Process student account refunds per Title IV regulations and at students’ request.
  • Process student account Title IV refunds for active students per regulations.
  • Audit credit balances on student accounts to ensure refundability and potential overawards.
  • Identify and correct student account discrepancies, working with Financial Aid to apply corrections when necessary.
  • Identify, research, and track past due student accounts, notifying students and authorized users, as needed.
  • Manage the military student benefits and put students in contracts in conjunction with the Registrar’s Office and Office of Financial Aid.
  • Work directly with Military Benefits Coordinator on a weekly basis to ensure accuracy on veteran accounts.
  • Collaborate with Billing Coordinator regarding military benefit discrepancies and process debt letters as needed.
  • Update enrollment information on the Student Accounts website and enrollment brochures.
  • Optimize processes and procedures to improve overall productivity within department.
  • Develop and maintain a procedure manual, updating it at least annually.
  • Assist in other projects as assigned by the Director.
