As part of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the Student Accommodation Specialist serves as an interactive member of the Department of Accessibility Services. This role involves reviewing supporting documentation and requests for accommodations from students to ensure quality, continuity, consistency, and accuracy. The specialist orients, supports, and provides guidance to students and their support systems about the disability accommodations process and the appropriate use of accommodations. The key responsibilities include reviewing and determining eligibility for accommodations from all Emory constituents by working directly with students to gather additional information. The specialist provides information about the request process and orientation to processes and procedures associated with registration. They attend and collaborate in weekly intake review team meetings to achieve a thorough review of difficult or complex requests for accommodation and work to identify efficiencies and solutions to accommodate related concerns. The specialist routinely monitors fluctuating workloads to ensure appropriate priority and timely delivery of services. Collaboration with academic departments is essential to ensure the provision of appropriate resources for students participating in field placements, internships, co-ops, distance learning programs, etc. Additionally, the specialist attends and participates in department, division, and university-wide professional development opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of the University's obligations associated with compliance and emerging solutions for equitable access. They collaborate with campus partners to support access for individuals with disabilities to university course materials, programs, and services. The specialist ensures staff participation at virtual and in-person recruiting fairs for prospective and current Emory constituents and facilitates workshops for students. In consultation with the Associate Director, they serve on university, divisional, and departmental committees and perform related responsibilities as required.
