About The Position

This is an opportunity for you to secure a position with one of the top performing engineering firms in the Southeastern United States as it positions itself for continued sustainable growth. As part of the Facilities Structures group, the Facilities Structures Engineer serves as Engineer of Record and Lead Technical Professional for smaller building projects, with responsibility for structural design, quality control, and sealing of assigned work. The role also provides technical oversight and QA/QC support. The Facilities Structures group primarily designs architectural building structures but also performs structural repair and rehabilitation design for municipal and private-sector clients. In addition, the position supports AVCON's Federal and Aviation Business Units on building-related structural work, though prior experience in those markets is not required. Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structures.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in building structures engineering design.
  • Proficiency with local building codes and existing building standards.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Proficiency with Bentley Ram Structural Suite or similar Finite Element Modeling software.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow-up on assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect privileged client information and documents appropriately.
  • Ability to work calmly and effectively in a high-volume office environment under pressure of deadlines.
  • Ability to orally and verbally communicate complex structural concepts and solutions in simple, concise, and accurate ways.
  • Valid drivers' license and maintenance of satisfactory driving record.
  • Professional Engineer licensure with ability to obtain Florida licensure within six (6) months, required.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, desired.
  • Ability to become licensed in multiple states, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Engineer of Record and Lead Technical Professional for assigned building projects with smaller, well-defined scopes, including responsibility for structural design, quality control, and sealing of work.
  • Serve as engineering lead for more complex building projects under the direction of a senior Engineer of Record, with responsibility for technical execution and coordination.
  • Direct the development of complete, coordinated, signed and sealed structural drawing sets, ensuring drawings clearly communicate design intent and constructible solutions.
  • Plan and organize structural drawing content, including determining where section cuts, enlarged plans, elevations, and project-specific details are required.
  • Identify conditions where typical details are not applicable and develop project-specific details as needed.
  • Assign design and drafting tasks to designers and junior engineers and coordinate their work to support efficient and accurate drawing production.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews of structural calculations, drawings, and specifications prepared by designers and junior engineers.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to designers and junior engineers, supporting growth in judgment, decision-making, and drawing production skills.
  • Lead structural design efforts for architectural building structures using steel, concrete, masonry, and wood systems.
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, plans, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Support structural repair and rehabilitation efforts as needed, including assisting with evaluations, repair concepts, and design development under the direction of senior staff.
  • Provide construction administration support, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings and submittals, and addressing contractor questions related to structural design intent.
  • Participate in site visits to review field conditions, investigate deviations or deficiencies, and develop repair or modification details as required.
  • Nights and weekends are generally not required but may occasionally be necessary with little or no advanced notice.
