About The Position

New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Kármán line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space. In this position you will be a Structures Design Engineer working on the Crew Capsule of the New Shepard rocket. New Shepard is committed to increasing our launch rate to send more customers and payloads to space. We are keenly focused on building safe and reliable hardware that meets our schedule, budget, and mission objectives. There is nothing more exciting than the countdown to a launch and celebrating a successful flight.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures.
  • Knowledge in material selection, compatibility, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Strong mechanical design and integration skills using CAD software.
  • Familiarity with classical stress analysis methods.
  • Practical understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance analysis.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture.

Nice To Haves

  • 7+ Proven years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with Creo (Pro/E).
  • Proficiency with designing and fabricating aerospace composite primary structures.
  • Experience with structural analysis and finite element modeling.
  • Understanding of fabrication, manufacturing, and assembly processes.
  • Manufacturing Review Board qualification or experience as a Liaison engineer or production support engineer.
  • Experience with qualification testing or integration testing.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the entire design cycle of structural and mechanical subsystems, including conceptual and detailed design, trade studies, structural analysis, development testing and qualification.
  • Generate 3-D models, component drawings, assembly drawings, and interface control documents.
  • Define assembly and test of development and flight hardware.
  • Participate in subsystem level testing including planning, execution, data reduction and analysis.
  • Develop component specifications and manage suppliers.
  • Provide manufacturing and production support.
  • Participate in the development and purchase of new equipment and tooling.
  • Work with multi-functional teams that are responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to produce world class aerospace hardware.
