The Structural Welder is responsible for joining steel components or metal plates using blueprints, work orders, welding procedures, or oral instructions through the application of heat or electric arc-welding equipment. The position involves various specific duties and responsibilities, including using Stick 7018 Rod welding processes, uniting pipes from torch to tanks of oxygen and fuel gas, and adjusting the flow of gas and air to reach the expected temperature, size, and color of flame. The welder will preheat work pieces, fill holes, correct mistakes, and manually apply filler rod to supply weld metal. Additional tasks include cleaning or degreasing weld joints, removing excess weld, and working at heights on ladders or scaffolds. The position requires the ability to choose the appropriate place for welding based on the type, thickness, area, and expected temperature of the metal. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
