The Fitter will perform a variety of tasks including layout and fitting of structural steel sub-assemblies, beams, columns, trusses, and other structural members to form completed structures or structural frameworks as per shop drawings. The Fitter will also be a proficient welder and capable of performing welding duties when needed. Must have 2+ years full time structural Fitting experience! on large fabricated assemblies.

  • Verify material sizes are correct and properly prepared prior to assembly. Report any incorrect or unprepared parts to Prefab Lead.
  • Expertise to critically review fabrication drawings.
  • Layout and fit fabricated steel assemblies and sub-assemblies.
  • Use tools and equipment including torches, forklifts, overhead cranes, carpenters’ levels, laser levels, tapes, squares, grinders, and mag drills.
  • Perform welding tasks as requested by supervisor or as required due to fabrication schedule and workload demands.
  • Must maintain a safe, clean, and orderly working environment by complying with KSF policies and procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintains adherence to company policies, and quality, safety, and environmental standards as outlined in roles and responsibilities.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years fitting experience on large fabricated assemblies.
  • Proficiency in the following welding procedures - FCAW Fillet Weld, CAC-G, FCAW 1F, FCAW 1G, FCAW 2F, FCAW 2G.
  • Fitting or layout experience with large assemblies.
  • Intermediate math and measurement skills (e.g., addition, subtraction, diameters), reading and comprehension.
  • Prefer applicable craft training by an approved construction trade association (e.g., ACI, BC, R.O.C.) welding programs.
  • Working knowledge of computers, smart phones, and tablets.
  • Understanding of safe work procedures for welding and fabrication shop work.
  • Ability to: Read and understand welding symbols in shop drawings.
  • Understand and read layouts, blueprints, diagrams, work orders, and welding procedures.
  • Set up and adjust welding machine to stay within parameters of welding procedures.
  • Understand operations of welding equipment.
  • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Prefer applicable craft training by an approved construction trade association (e.g., ACI, BC, R.O.C.) welding programs.
