About The Position

GPLA, part of the DPR Family of Companies, is a leading firm in the field of structural engineering, dedicated to delivering innovative and efficient solutions for a wide range of construction projects. We are seeking a talented Structural Project Manager, HCAI (Department of Health Care Access and Information), to join our dynamic team. This position requires demonstrated experience with California HCAI projects, including acute care hospital and healthcare facility design. The Structural Project Manager will be expected to lead project teams through HCAI submittal, review, and approval processes while ensuring that structural systems meet the stringent seismic and life-safety requirements defined by HCAI and the California Building Code (CBC). This individual is responsible for overseeing and managing projects from conceptual design through construction completion. The role involves coordinating and supervising all aspects of the structural design process through completion of the construction administration phase, ensuring that the structural components are designed, modeled, detailed, and delivered in accordance with the project's scope, budget, and schedule expectations.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of structural engineering principles, codes, and standards.
  • Familiarity with structural design and analysis, materials, and construction techniques.
  • Ability to act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the company.

  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools used in structural engineering and project management.
  • Proficiency in project management; including experience in planning, organizing, and executing projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial and budget management principles.
  • Comprehensive understanding of California HCAI regulations, processes, and design standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
  • Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred.
  • Experience managing HCAI-regulated projects in California, particularly acute care hospital or healthcare facility projects.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and manage Structural Designers I, Structural Designers II, Structural Design Engineers, and Structural Project Engineers.
  • Manage the production of drawings, specifications, and calculations during a project's design phase life cycle from conceptual design to completion of construction documents.
  • Review deliverables to ensure the scope and quality standards are met throughout project's life cycle.
  • Develop a comprehensive plan that defines the project objectives, scope, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Manage the completion of various construction administration tasks, such as reviewing shop drawings and submittals, responding to RFIs, and making site visits.
  • Oversee and be responsible for the development of structural designs and analytical models for various building types and materials.
  • Perform and/or review calculations and analyses to ensure structural integrity and compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Utilize CAD software, including Tekla Structures, and other tools to create 2D drawings and 3D models.
  • Manage team members, including engineers, modelers and detailers, to meet project deadlines and deliver high-quality design solutions within budget.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders such as architects, contractors, and MEP designers.
  • Manage project design meetings to achieve project objectives.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, code updates, and advancements in structural design techniques and technologies.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost optimization, and efficiency enhancement.
  • Monitor project costs, track expenses and manage the project budget, including Monthly Status Reports.
  • Invoice and pursue payment. Identify and pursue change orders as appropriate due to the modifications to the project's scope, budget or schedule.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with HCAI requirements and the California Building Code.
  • Coordinate directly with HCAI reviewers, field compliance officers, and client representatives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of HCAI regulatory updates, seismic compliance requirements, and construction observation protocols.
