The Journeyman Ironworker is responsible for ensuring that all craft are trained to follow project policies and procedures. This role involves setting up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members, with the crane and rigging department typically handling crane setups for steel erection. The position requires the use of tag lines on all hoisted members and a thorough understanding of how members are fastened. The Journeyman Ironworker must be able to install steel members into approximate positions while supported by hoisting devices and ensure they are installed into final positions using various tools and equipment. Additionally, the role includes aligning holes in members, verifying vertical and horizontal alignment, bolting members temporarily, modifying steel members, and assisting in the handling of materials during installation. Minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment are also part of the job responsibilities.
