1. Communicates with Ironworkers and others to perform job tasks. 2. May assist in setting up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members. 3. Guides member, using tag line(s) (rope) to guide it into position. 4. Fastens steel members to cable of hoist, using wire rope chokers or slings. 5. Aligns holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member with the use of drift pins or handle of wrench through holes. 6. Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members, using Bazooka bob and level. 7. Bolts aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place. 8. Cuts steel members to make alterations, using oxyacetylene welding equipment or grinders with metal cutting discs. If they have been trained and qualify to do this operation. 9. Loads, transports, and unloads materials, tools, equipment, or supplies. 10. May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and structural members during installation. 11. Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment. If they have been trained and qualify to do this operation. 12. Adheres to all safety procedures. 13. All the above job functions may be accomplished with the assistance of a journeyman B or C. 14. Typically require a minimum of 6 months industrial construction experience.
