JMT's Lexington, KY office is seeking a Structural Intern for the summer of 2026 to work with our Transportation Structural team. The candidate will work on a variety of assignments, both independently and with a project team. The candidate will be supported by engineers on the design team while learning to complete tasks at the highest level. Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification. Interns at JMT will automatically be enrolled in our internship program. JMT’s internship program provides opportunities for our interns to job shadow other areas of civil engineering, attend lunch-and-learn seminars, identify personal goals, understand the value of networking, learn about the business of civil engineering, and much more! Compensation is based upon education level, ranging from $21-26/hour.

Requirements

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and manage time
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively with others
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including WORD and EXCEL
  • Students currently pursuing a B.S. degree in civil engineering at a 4-year ABET-accredited university or a master’s program in Civil Engineering
  • Students should have completed or planned to be enrolled in courses such as structural analysis, steel or concrete design, geotechnical engineering, etc

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using MicroStation
  • Experience using structural analysis and design software and Mathcad
  • 3D Structural Modeling Experience with AASHTO LRFD bridge design
  • EIT certification, or the ability to quickly obtain certification

Responsibilities

  • Perform general civil/structural engineering tasks to support various project managers, as required
  • Assist in the production of engineering drawings using MicroStation
  • Develop quantity take-offs
  • Review shop drawings and submittals
  • Assist in the field performing bridge and structure inspections
  • Write and review bridge inspection reports
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
