About The Position

Structural Fitters are the backbone of our operation - you'll prepare structural metal products for welding and bring engineering blueprints to life!

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Vocational training or previous employer training in application tools and techniques preferred
  • Must pass our comprehensive written and/or practical skills test
  • Willingness to complete our world-class training programs after joining the team
  • Minimum 3 years of fitter work-related experience and/or training required
  • Must read blueprints, section and plan drawings, and weld symbols like a pro
  • Derive measurements, dimensions, and material quantities from technical drawings
  • Handle multiple processing operations simultaneously
  • Self-motivated and able to work autonomously
  • Basic mathematics knowledge essential
  • Experience in physically demanding environments
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and commitment to safety practices
  • Read printed materials, identify tool markings, and recognize team members
  • Engage in conversations and respond to safety alerts
  • Communicate effectively with individuals and groups
  • Operate arc welding equipment, oxy-fuel cutting tools, grinders, cranes, and more
  • Handle up to 50lbs regularly
  • Comfortable working in tight spaces for extended periods
  • Work confidently at heights up to 15 feet on various platforms
  • Stand, walk, sit, squat, and kneel as needed throughout the day

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, assemble, and install structural steel products including beams, braces, pipes, and plates
  • Verify conformance using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes
  • Align and fit parts using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers
  • Move parts into position manually or with hoists and cranes
  • Study engineering drawings to determine materials and task sequences
  • Lay out and examine metal stock to ensure specifications are met
  • Tack-weld fitted parts together for seamless final assembly
  • Lift and move materials using large cranes safely and efficiently
  • Remove high spots and cut bevels using hand files, grinders, and cutting torches
  • Design and construct templates and fixtures using hand tools
  • Hammer, chip, and grind workpieces to achieve perfect specifications
  • Preheat workpieces and perform heat-treating using acetylene torches
  • Install boilers, containers, and other complex structures
  • Direct welders to build up low spots or short pieces with precision welds
  • Constantly check your work to ensure it meets or exceeds our high standards
  • Maintain work area and equipment with exceptional housekeeping standards
