Structural Estimator / CAD Operator
About The Position
We are seeking an experienced Structural Estimator / CAD Operator to join a growing structural steel organization. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong estimating expertise and hands-on CAD experience within the structural steel industry. The Structural Estimator / CAD Operator will be responsible for preparing accurate project estimates, reviewing structural steel drawings, and supporting design and modeling efforts. This role requires the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
Requirements
- 5â7+ years of experience as a Structural Steel Estimator (required)
- Strong proficiency in CAD, specifically within the structural steel industry
- Experience with AutoCAD and 3D modeling software (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
- Advanced knowledge of structural steel detailing and construction methods
- Proven ability to read and interpret structural steel blueprints
- Strong computer skills with comfort handling extensive documentation
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Must pass a 5-panel drug screen
- Local travel required (company vehicle provided for business use)
Nice To Haves
- Fabrication experience (preferred but not required)
- Combined estimating and CAD operating background
Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates for structural steel projects, including material costs, labor hours, manpower, timelines, and profit margins
- Review and interpret structural steel blueprints and shop drawings
- Perform CAD work and 3D modeling related to structural steel projects
- Collaborate with internal teams to support project planning and execution
- Maintain accurate documentation and records throughout the estimating process
- Support local site visits as needed using a company-provided vehicle
