AECOM is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern to be based in Virginia Beach, VA. This position is expected to begin in May 2026. Requirements

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with a focus on Structural Engineering, from an ABET accredited program, or related field and must have completed at least 2 years of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Due to the nature of the work U.S. citizenship is required.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Revit.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Some knowledge of construction materials.
  • Capability to work on multiple fast-paced projects.
  • Ability to follow direction and manage specific tasks to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the execution of a variety of structural engineering projects, collaborating with team members, and developing technical expertise from industry experts.
  • Complete assignments covering all project stages from planning, design, and construction phases through completion.
  • Build essential skills that will enhance the transition from student to professional.
  • Follows instructions to accomplish tasks assigned by senior staff.
  • Meets required schedules while producing quality work.
