The Structural Engineer is responsible for assisting with a variety of Structural projects focused in both rural and urban Alaska. Responsibilities Use computer aided design technology for simulation purposes. Master CAD software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, RISA 3D) for design and simulation. Familiarity with structural analysis tools. Prepare reports, designs and drawings. Make structural calculations about pressures, loads and stresses. It is expected for you to strengthen your ability to calculate pressures, loads, and stresses. Practice with real-world scenarios, especially for extreme conditions like Alaska’s climate (e.g., permafrost, seismic activity) while in this position. It is expected for you to deepen your understanding of construction materials suited for cold, remote environments (e.g., corrosion-resistant materials for coastal or industrial infrastructure and/or lightweight options for rural projects) while in this position. Since a Professional Engineer (PE) license is required and progress toward a Structural Engineer (SE) license is expected, prioritize SE exam preparation if not already in progress. Consider the strength of construction materials and select appropriately. Provide technical advice on safe designs and construction. Assist in obtaining planning and/or building regulations approval. Practice translating technical concepts into clear, concise terms for non-engineers. Build experience working in cross-functional roles and teams. Assist in administering contracts and managing projects. This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.
