About The Position

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking Engineering, Professional, Technical, and administrative personnel as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at the Y‑12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant located in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance Y-12's core mission to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent, which is essential to national security. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction and assignments from Y-12 staff employed directly by the security complex. Pay, benefits, Human Resources, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited school.
  • 10 - 14 years of direct experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees.
  • Proficient with developing structural drawings (plans, sections and details) for various materials of construction (concrete, steel, masonry, cold-formed steel, timber).
  • Experience with structural calculations, equipment anchorage, report preparation, drafting (or oversight of drafting), and preparation of construction specifications.
  • Familiarity with consensus design codes.
  • Ability to plan, self-perform and/or direct all engineering design team activities on a project.
  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • CAD drafting experience.
  • 3D modelling experience.
  • Structural modelling experience with STAAD.Pro.

Responsibilities

  • Develop high quality detailed design packages.
  • Provide engineering procurement and field technical support to implement designs.
  • Provide expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant facilities.
  • Prepare conceptual engineering deliverables such as cost-estimating bills of material and man-hour estimates.
  • Prepare statements of work, design criteria, and design engineering deliverables.
  • Work effectively and cooperatively as a team member of an integrated project team or as a technical lead for a multi-discipline task.
  • Provide input to system engineers and other plant customers.
  • Perform building evaluations and modifications, seismic analyses and rehab, oversight of outside engineering firms, and machine installations.
