About The Position

As a Bridge Engineer (Structural) for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in our Pittsburgh, PA office, you will support the growth of the firm’s structural and bridge engineering services while working with project teams to deliver innovative and reliable structural solutions for transportation infrastructure. You will contribute to the design and analysis of a variety of structure types, including highway, railroad, and bicycle/pedestrian bridges, while supporting projects for public sector and transportation agency clients. From preliminary concepts through final design and construction support, you will play an active role in developing bridge and structural improvements that enhance regional transportation networks. Your work will include performing structural analysis and design calculations, developing engineering reports, preparing construction plans, and assisting with load ratings and bridge inspections. You will utilize industry-standard design codes such as AASHTO and engineering software such as AASHTOWare BrR/BrD, SAP2000, and STAAD to develop safe and efficient structural designs. You will work closely with Project Managers and Principals to plan and execute bridge and structural projects, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure high-quality project deliverables. Your responsibilities will include supporting adherence to project schedules and budgets, assisting with proposal preparation and project pursuits, and coordinating with subconsultants and internal staff to meet project goals and deadlines. You will also contribute to quality assurance reviews and help mentor junior staff while growing your technical and project leadership skills. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis required
  • 4+ years of relevant bridge and structural design experience required
  • Ability and desire to mentor junior staff
  • EIT certification and desire to obtain P.E. license
  • Strong technical experience in bridge and structural analysis and design
  • Familiarity with bridge design codes such as AASHTO
  • Experience with engineering software such as AASHTOWare BrR/BrD, SAP2000, and/or STAAD

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on Design-Build and Design-Bid-Build transportation projects preferred
  • Experience performing bridge inspections and load ratings a plus
  • Proficiency in Bentley Microstation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred
  • Experience supporting marketing efforts, business development, and proposal preparation a plus, or willingness to learn
