About The Position

The Lead Structural Engineer (SE) will provide conceptual and detailed design of building structures during both pre-sales and post-sales stages. This role involves working with local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes. The engineer will be responsible for the detailed design of mechanical parts, including lifting points, anchoring points, flashings, and gutters, while ensuring that designs meet or exceed Vertiv's quality requirements and budgetary constraints. The position requires the creation of detailed Schematic Design (SD), Detail Design (DD), and Construction Drawing (CD) narratives for structural design aspects, as well as reviewing and approving structural product submittals. The engineer will also provide static and dynamic calculations, coordinate with mechanical engineers on thermal transfer calculations, and manage contracted engineering companies regarding civil work calculations and documentation. Additional responsibilities include material specification, project scope definition, quality control during execution, and providing support for on-site module repairs. The role may require travel to fabricators' facilities for design validation and workmanship audits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or acceptable experience.
  • Professional engineering (PE) License – optional.
  • Minimum 4 years of mechanical/structural engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of local, state, & federal codes governing low voltage switchboards/switchgear.
  • Working knowledge in AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings and equipment specifications.
  • Knowledge of local and national building codes.
  • Ability to interpret customer specification requirements.
  • Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented with proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Lead Structural Engineer to provide conceptual and detailed design of building structures.
  • Work with local agencies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes.
  • Detailed design of mechanical parts such as lifting points, anchoring points, flashings, and gutters.
  • Create designs that meet or exceed Vertiv quality requirements and fall within budgetary requirements.
  • Provide detailed Schematic Design (SD), Detail Design (DD), and Construction Drawing (CD) narratives.
  • Review and approve structural product submittals.
  • Provide static and dynamic calculations.
  • Coordinate with Mechanical Engineer on thermal transfer calculations.
  • Manage and coordinate contracted engineering companies for civil work calculations and documentation.
  • Specify materials for structural and finish requirements.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support during construction phases.
  • Provide welding procedure and inspection specifications.
  • Specify nondestructive examination (NDE) methods.
  • Develop dimensional test procedures and structural load test procedures.
  • Coordinate between architectural and civil work design.
  • Provide technical project coordination with customers and suppliers.
  • Ensure quality control during execution.
  • Support on-site module repairs.
  • Work with fabrication teams to validate construction processes.
  • Travel to fabricators' facilities for design validation and workmanship audits.
