Kimley-Horn is looking for a Building Inspector to assist engineers with the completion of structural projects in our Fort Lauderdale, Florida, (FL) office! This is not a remote position.
Perform inspections of building envelope systems including concrete, stucco, glazing, sealants, waterproofing, roofing, and cladding to verify compliance with approved construction documents, threshold inspection requirements, ASTM and AAMA standards, and applicable building codes
Execute forensic-style field observations, documenting deficiencies with detailed reports, annotated photographs, and references to industry standards (ASTM, AAMA, ACI, ICRI, etc.)
Monitor construction activities on swing stages, scaffolds, and other elevated work platforms, ensuring safe access and compliance with OSHA and project-specific safety protocols
Collaborate with project engineers and contractors to resolve field issues, offering technical solutions consistent with forensic best practices and industry standards
Review submittals, shop drawings, and construction schedules for alignment with specifications and project requirements
Participate in client, contractor, and project team meetings to communicate findings
Mentor junior staff in proper inspection techniques, field safety, and technical reporting standards
High school degree or equivalent; Bachelor's Degree Preferred
5+ years of relevant construction inspection or building envelope experience with expertise in concrete, stucco, glass and glazing, sealants, waterproofing, roofing, and cladding
Strong knowledge of ASTM, AAMA, and ACI standards governing inspection, testing, and performance of building envelope systems
Ability to safely work on swing stages, scaffolding, and elevated access equipment and understand construction site safety protocols and OSHA compliance
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Proficiency in preparing detailed inspection reports, forensic documentation, and photo logs suitable for legal and technical review
