VHB’s Structural Engineering team plays a critical role in improving mobility and connectivity through impactful infrastructure projects. Our work spans complex bridge and interchange designs, rehabilitations and inspections, pedestrian walkways, and transit stations—advancing transportation systems and enhancing quality of life for the communities we serve. We are seeking a Structural Bridge Engineer to join our growing team in Washington, D.C. or Tysons Corner, VA. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated engineering professional to contribute to a variety of bridge and transportation-related structural projects. You'll work in a highly collaborative environment, utilizing state-of-the-art tools and developing digital models that support transformative infrastructure solutions across the region.   • Perform structural modeling, analysis, and design for bridges and other transportation infrastructure projects
  • Prepare detailed construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates, and calculation packages
  • Conduct quality reviews of engineering reports and construction documents
  • Support structural inspections, evaluations, and load capacity ratings
  • Review fabrication drawings and perform construction plan reviews
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals, qualifications packages, and project scoping
  • Provide project coordination support across disciplines and help manage deadlines and deliverables
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and project managers throughout all phases of a project
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative and knowledge-sharing team culture
  • 3–5+ years of experience in structural bridge and/or transportation design
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering (Structural emphasis preferred)
  • EIT certification required; PE license preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Solid understanding of bridge design standards and structural engineering principles
  • Proficient in at least some structural analysis/design tools such as Mathcad, STAAD Pro, AASHTOWare, LARSA 4D, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, etc.
  • Experience with model-based design and tools like Bentley OpenBridge and OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, Infraworks, or Inventor
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and effective in managing multiple tasks
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a highly collaborative team
