About The Position

We have an immediate opening for a Level I Tank, Void, Topside Assessment Technician to support our Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) Code 242 customer in Norfolk, VA. Essential Responsibilities: Provide technical assistance, assessments, inspection, troubleshooting, corrective actions, adjustments/repairs, and grooms on shipboard tanks, voids, and topside structure and coatings Use appropriate measuring/test equipment to obtain data for evaluation Provide written visit debrief and written reports Attend conferences and meetings Provide On-The-Job Training to the ship's force during shipboard evolutions Demonstrated ability to interpret blueprints, technical drawings, diagrams, and sketches

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of experience within the last ten (7) years of experience in the assessment, repair, and maintenance of tanks, voids, spaces/compartments, and topside areas on US Navy ships.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of specialized hands-on experience working and inspecting ship tanks, voids, and spaces/compartments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of welding requirements as defined in MIL Standard 1689 & IAW MRCs G1N5 & G1N6.
  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding sheet metal, preservation, insulation, piping, and electrical systems on US Navy Ships.
  • Must show technical experience in the field of preservation and/or structural/coatings assessments.
  • Must have an active secret US government clearance.
  • Note: US citizenship is required to maintain a secret clearance
  • Must be self-motivated, customer-oriented, and possess strong analytical and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Must be able to walk long distances from parking facilities to ships across paved, unpaved, and often unlevel surfaces.
  • Must be able to traverse steep stairs, vertical ladders, watertight hatches, doors, and scuttles.
  • Must be able to work on elevated surfaces, scaffolding, masts, and catwalks using fall protection principles and fall-arresting equipment..
  • May be required to work in confined spaces such as tanks, voids, and plenums.
  • Must be able to lift and carry a tool bag or backpack weighing up to 35 lbs. as part of a normal workday.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred certifications include: AMPP CIP Level 1, S-CAT Technician, and/or NBPI.
  • Experience as a member of a US Navy Engineering Activity or US Navy Shipboard Engineering Department
