About The Position

As Structural Analyst you will perform structural strength analysis for both flight and non-flight hardware. This work is in support of the Space Launch System (SLS) program as well as other new and existing programs at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC).

Requirements

Degree from an ABET- accredited university in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
Collaboration with outside vendors and personnel from other NASA centers in the development of structural hardware as well as collaboration with other MSFC Test Engineers & Fabricators.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, Mathcad , and Word are required.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

Nice To Haves

Proficiency in one or more of the major commercial finite element codes (e.g., FEMAP, PATRAN, NASTRAN, ABAQUS, or ANSYS).
Experience in the application of finite element methods and the assessment of failure mechanisms such as rupture, yield, buckling, and fatigue.
Experience in analysis of joints containing mechanical fasteners or welds.
Educational emphasis in structural analysis.
Familiarity with NASA standards and MSFC Specifications.
Familiarity with AISC’s 15th Edition Steel Construction Manual

Responsibilities

Development of formal stress analysis packages for ground support and special test equipment using strength of materials and finite element-based methods
Interfacing with design engineers to provide inputs to preliminary designs
Development and delivery of reports and presentations to management
Collaboration with outside vendors and personnel from other NASA centers in the development of structural hardware as well as collaboration with other MSFC Test Engineers & Fabricators.
