Stress Analyst - Lunar Terrain Vehicle

Intuitive Machines LLCHouston, TX
81d

About The Position

Intuitive Machines is seeking a skilled and experienced Stress Analyst/Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Stress Engineer you will work in a cross-functional team on the analysis, development, manufacture, test, and on-orbit operation of flight and ground support hardware. Employment in this role is contingent upon NASA selecting Intuitive Machines as the winner of the LTVS program, scheduled for announcement later in 2025.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Various years of experience in aerospace stress analysis, structural engineering, or related field, preferably in the aerospace industry.
  • Familiarity with component design using 3D CAD software, preferably CREO, for basic design trades in support of multiple design engineers.
  • Proficiency in finite element analysis (FEA) software tools such as ANSYS, FEMAP/Nastran.
  • Experience with aerospace materials, composites, and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to aerospace structural design and analysis (e.g., FAA, MIL-STD, ASTM).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed engineering decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed stress analysis and finite element analysis (FEA) to assess the structural integrity and performance of aerospace components and systems.
  • Support the analysis of Carbon Fiber Structural panels and joints, and metallic secondary structure.
  • Analyze flight and ground loads to determine the effects on vehicle structures and subsystems, and provide recommendations for load mitigation and optimization.
  • Evaluate material properties and compatibility for use in aerospace applications, considering factors such as strength, weight, and thermal characteristics.
  • Verify the structural integrity of vehicle designs through analysis, testing, and simulation, identifying potential failure modes and proposing design modifications as needed.
  • Identify and assess potential risks associated with structural design and performance, and develop risk mitigation strategies to ensure mission success.
  • Prepare comprehensive engineering reports, documentation, and technical presentations to communicate analysis results, findings, and recommendations to internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineers, systems engineers, and manufacturing engineers, to ensure alignment and integration of structural requirements throughout the product development lifecycle.
