About The Position

The City of Rohnert Park is seeking a Streets Maintenance Worker II to join the Streets Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. This role involves performing skilled and semi-skilled activities related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of the city's streets and related infrastructure, ensuring the safety and functionality of public roadways and facilities.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in street maintenance, including asphalt and concrete work, striping and traffic markings, and sign replacement at a level equivalent to City of Rohnert Park Street Maintenance Worker I.
  • Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license by time of appointment and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Possession of a valid California Class A commercial driver's license with tank and air brake endorsements (or greater equivalent) is desirable.
  • Possession of California Department of Pesticide Regulation Qualified Applicator Certificate is required within twelve months of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of compaction principles and asphalt and subgrade installation.
  • Demonstrated competence in CalTrans Traffic control safety training and flagging.
  • Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of construction and maintenance functions related to the streets infrastructure, including asphalt removal and repair, sidewalk removal and repair, sign replacement and installation, and street markings maintenance and installation.
  • Excavate, make pavement cuts, remove and replace subgrade, and apply hot or cold mixes.
  • Install, repair, and perform general sidewalk maintenance including patching, grinding, and removal, and assist with new installation.
  • Repair and abate various forms of vandalism including graffiti and unauthorized street markings.
  • Perform encampment cleanups, including debris and trash removal.
  • Conduct general landscape maintenance duties including mowing, trimming, edging, hedging, and weeding.
  • Pick up garbage from assigned City streetscape locations.
  • Apply pesticides as directed and maintain irrigation systems.
  • Perform street marking installation including general striping, curb marking, and street signs.
  • Mix, pour, and finish concrete sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and driveways.
  • Calculate and estimate material quantities and costs.
  • Operate and maintain a wide variety of hand and power tools, ensuring proper operation of equipment related to the work.
  • Provide timely and responsive corrective action to citizens' questions, concerns, complaints, and claims.
  • Use a computer to assist with logging and/or tracking daily work assignments and maintain work-related records.
  • Read and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Operate and/or drive a variety of light and heavy-duty equipment and vehicles typically used in Public Works' maintenance and construction activities.
  • Follow safe work methods and safety practices related to the work.
