The Streets Maintenance Worker I position involves performing essential labor work associated with the maintenance of the City's streets and signs. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and functionality of public roadways. The worker will be part of a street maintenance repair crew, engaging in various tasks such as pouring concrete, shoveling asphalt, raking, tamping, and smoothing asphalt. Additionally, the worker will be responsible for dirt excavating, pothole repair, barricade maintenance, filling sandbags, and managing ice and flood control. The position also includes picking up debris on streets and right-of-ways, which is vital for maintaining clean and safe public spaces. In terms of construction duties, the Streets Maintenance Worker I will perform labor involved in repairing and constructing concrete or asphalt streets, curbs, and storm drains. This includes building forms, pouring and finishing concrete, and repairing or installing fences as required on City projects. The worker will operate a variety of Public Works street equipment, including jackhammers, spray paint guns, rollers, front-end loaders, tampers, chainsaws, and trucks. Cleaning and maintaining this equipment is also part of the daily responsibilities. Safety is a top priority in this role. The worker will be responsible for setting up traffic control at job sites to ensure a safe working environment, which includes placing and gathering cones, flags, and traffic signs. The worker will also assist in painting or installing buttons, crosswalks, and other traffic markings, as well as the installation of traffic and street signs. Adhering to safety procedures and the proper use of safety equipment is mandatory at all times. The position may also involve other assignments and assistance with special projects as required.
