Join Our Public Works Team – Streets Division! Are you looking for a hands-on role where you can make a real impact in your community? The Town of Erie is seeking motivated individuals to help maintain and improve our streets and infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to the safety and quality of life for our residents. We’re hiring for Streets Maintenance Technician Level I or Level II, depending on your experience and qualifications. Whether you’re just starting out or bringing prior skills to the table, we have a place for you! In this role, you’ll perform a variety of tasks, in support of the operation and maintenance of roadways, right of ways, signage and other Town infrastructure. You’ll work under general supervision, following established guidelines, and receive training to build your expertise. This position also includes cross-training opportunities and other duties as assigned, so every day brings something new. Work Location: Leon A Wurl Service Center - 150 Bonnell Ave, Erie, CO 80516 This position is 100% in-person and not eligible for remote work. Work Schedule: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM Employee must be able to work on-call schedule as assigned and outside of normal working hours. Requirements

  • Streets Maintenance Technician I
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • One (1) year of laboring, heavy maintenance, equipment operations or other relevant experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Required to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License Class B within 9 months of hire
  • Flagger Certification within 9 months of hire
  • Streets Maintenance Technician II
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Three (3) years of related working experience
  • Two (2) years of heavy equipment operations such as front-end loader, skid-steer loader, or other motorized equipment.
  • Experience with snow operations
  • Hot mix asphalt work experience
  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License with these endorsements: B (26,001 or more pounds); N (Tanker); and without L (airbrake restrictions)
  • Flagger Certification
  • Possess a LTAP Road Scholar I Certification
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle safely to various Town facilities and at times other locations to perform the duties of the position.
  • Knowledge of: use or learn to use hand tools and heavy equipment such as front-end loader, motor grader, sweeper, backhoe, dump truck, skid steer, and other mobile machinery.
  • Knowledge of basic math skills including how to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Skills in: Ability to use or learn to use hand tools and heavy equipment such as front-end loader, motor grader, sweeper, backhoe, dump truck, skid steer, and other mobile machinery.
  • Ability to complete basic math such as how to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to read maps and drawings.
  • Ability to trouble-shoot and resolve problems involving variables in any standardized situation.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instruction, short correspondence, and memos and carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationship with employees and the public.
  • Ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one and/or small group situation, to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to supervise and direct subordinates in the absence of division supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Assists, performs and/or directs a variety of routine to complex maintenance and construction activities, or inspections to include street signage, street sweeping, pavement markings, concrete maintenance and asphalt maintenance.
  • Fabricates, installs and maintains a variety of specialized and complex equipment such as traffic data collection devices, traffic signal equipment and school zone speed awareness signs and performs light mechanical repair and maintenance.
  • Operates heavy and light duty equipment to perform related maintenance and construction assignments such as front-end loader, dump truck, motor grader, sweeper, skid steer, backhoe and snowplow.
  • Performs a variety of heavy laboring activities including the use of hand tools, light power equipment and heavy construction and maintenance equipment.
  • Performs snow and ice control operations with various equipment
  • Maintains accurate records of work performed and materials and equipment used and other data in Central Square
  • Interact with members of the public in the field to provide information and customer service.
  • Prepares necessary records and reports.
  • Performs a variety of duties that requires considerable knowledge of the use and wear of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Performs routine safety checks of equipment and minor maintenance activities on vehicles and equipment and maintains records of activities.
  • Maintains a safe working environment to include working in traffic and congested areas, working in ditches and confined spaces and all work environments.
  • Assists in the cleaning and organization of shop area.
  • Assisting Meters with reading and maintenance, service orders, conducting turn-offs and turn-ons of residential and commercial water services.
  • Assisting Distribution, Collections, and Storm Operations with maintenance of sanitary sewer, water, storm related items.
  • Assisting Locates with utility locates.
  • Assisting in Town events preparation, operation and break down.
