Works under the supervision of Street Division Foreman, performs routine street maintenance construction tasks, including a wide variety of semi-skilled manual tasks and extends to the operation of light to medium sized automotive equipment. Work with Street Division Foreman in the scheduling of road maintenance and repairs as needed. Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public. Supervision and training of Temporary Streets Laborers. Oversees the safe operation on the Crack Seal Program. Trains the Temporary Employees on the proper operation and maintenance of the Crack Seal Machine, Mastic Machine and Equipment. Trains the Temporary Employees on the proper methods and procedures of crack sealing. Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City. Operates jack-hammers, vibrating skid plate tampers, chainsaws, weed eaters, hand picks, shovels, brooms, rakes, pitch forks, pruners and other miscellaneous hand tools. Operates high pressure air compressor for blowing out cracks in the asphalt. Operates a crack seal machine. Operates dump trucks in a wide variety of Public Work's maintenance and construction tasks. Operates snow control equipment. Operates steel wheel rollers, rubber tire rollers, loaders, water trucks and similar equipment. Works with asphalt, crack sealing material, concrete, salt, liquid calcium chloride, liquid magnesium chloride, oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, herbicides, paint, traffic control signs, trash, weeds, tree limbs, dirt, rock, sand and gravel. Performs proper traffic control for the safety of the crew and the general public. Performs proper book keeping of product inventory ,measurements and job history. Performs heavy manual labor duties out-of-doors in extreme weather conditions. Operates and works around noisy equipment, vibrating equipment. Frequent exposure to gasoline, diesel, paint , tar, and asphalt fumes. Attendance at work is an essential function of this position. This position has the responsibility to participate in and comply with the City's Environmental, Health, and Safety program. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Controls traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas and/or setting up traffic control devices. Assists in setting up and cleaning of job sites. Cleans weeds, trash, and other debris from work site. Performs custodial tasks. Provides minor equipment maintenance inspections such as greasing, checking oil, transmission fluid and water.
