About The Position

Responsible for providing safe, courteous, and efficient streetcar operations including, but not limited to, routine operations, special operations, recovering from onboard vehicle failures, monitoring and reporting passenger movements, making public address announcements, and exercising prudent judgment pertaining to those conditions which might occur during the Streetcar Motorman’s scheduled work shift.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License or be able to obtain one within in 10 days of hire or moving to the State of Florida.
  • Ability to operate small office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephone systems, as well as a computer for both data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes.
  • Ability to work under stress.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a timely fashion on multiple concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to accurately memorize and retain details.
  • Ability to interact positively with a variety of personalities internally and externally.
  • Analytical/problem solving ability.
  • Ability to meet attendance and punctuality requirements.
  • Ability to be a flexible, effective team player.
  • Standard office practices, procedures and equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum two (2) years of transit experience as a transit operator

Responsibilities

  • Exposure to electrical currents including engaging streetcars with overhead wires.
  • Performs pre-pullout, relief, and post service streetcar checks.
  • Operates streetcar service according to published scheduled times or as directed.
  • Possess knowledge of and adheres to HART policies, rules, and procedure including, ADA, OSHA, FTA and DOT.
  • Will possess or be able to attain knowledge of various points of interest in and around the County using maps and other publications.
  • Possesses the ability to troubleshoot streetcars to maintain service which will include operating the vehicle for servicing, as requested.
  • Will use 2-way radio communications to communicate with Dispatch as required.
  • Will be required to professionally interact with passengers, providing excellent customer service.
  • Will be required to exercise sound judgment under high-pressure situations.
  • May be exposed to noise, dust, and all-weather related conditions.
  • Lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Memorize signs, signals and terminology used for rail transit.
  • Understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions.
  • Must demonstrate proficiencies to fully communicate in the English language.
  • Successfully pass all tests including recertification.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Adhering to stated policies and procedures relating to health and safety, security, and quality management.
  • Recognizing and reporting all accidents and hazardous conditions.
  • Assisting in the development of workplace safety procedures for their respective departments.
  • Promoting workplace safety procedures within their department.
  • Adhering to procedures relating to the proper use and care of equipment and materials for which the role has responsibility.
