About The Position

Under the supervision of Street Division Foreman, performs routine street maintenance construction tasks, including a wide variety of semi-skilled manual tasks and extends to the operation of light to medium sized automotive equipment. Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public. Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City. Operates Street Sweepers in order to clean and maintain streets, parking lots, medians, alleys and intersections. Responds to emergency calls to clean up wrecks, oil and gravel spills. Performs daily preventative maintenance including checking oil, fluids, coolant, filters, lights, brooms, greasing all inserts and washing unit daily. Performs mechanical repairs including changing brooms, deflector plate and bar, skid shoes and plates. Trouble shoots on rear and front engines. Prepares daily reports on sweeping hours, mileage, water gallons, loads or debris and maintenance performed on sweeper. Operates jack-hammers, vibrating skid plate tampers, chain saws, weed eaters, hand picks, shovels, brooms, rakes, pitch forks, pruners, and other miscellaneous hand tools. Operates dump trucks in a wide variety of Community Works' maintenance and construction tasks, snow control equipment, steel wheel rollers, rubber tire rollers, crack sealing machine, loaders, water trucks, and similar equipment, a wide variety of semi-skilled street construction equipment for training purposes. Attendance at work is an essential function of this position. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Assists in setting up and cleaning of job sites including traffic control devices. Cleans weeds, trash, and other debris from work site. Performs custodial tasks. The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Requirements

  • THIS POSITION REQUIRES A CLASS B COMMERICAL DRIVERS LICENSE (CDL).
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent work experience in a closely related construction field.
  • Valid New Mexico Class B Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement required with acceptable driving record for the past three years.
  • Experience operating street sweepers, dump trucks, water trucks, crack sealing machine, jackhammers, steel wheel and rubber tire rollers, vibrating skid plate tampers, hand picks and shovels, chain saws, weed eaters, brooms, rakes, pitch forks, pruners and loaders.
  • One year of work experience in a construction related field involving the operation of trucks or other related light automotive equipment, or equivalent vocational training courses.
  • Ability to adapt to rotating shifts.
  • Must have a telephone at residence.
  • Must be willing and able to be on 24-hour call.
  • Must be able to be at the MOC within 30 minutes after receiving call.
