The Street Outreach Worker at the Archdiocese of St. Louis plays a crucial role in addressing the needs of the homeless population in the St. Louis area. The Street Outreach Worker will focus on addressing urgent medical and psychiatric needs by facilitating access to emergency, physical, and mental health services. Additionally, the role involves connecting homeless individuals to emergency shelters and necessary assistance programs, ensuring they receive the help they need to transition into stable housing. Daily responsibilities include conducting street outreach to develop rapport with clients, assisting them in gathering essential documentation, and helping them secure identification and social security cards. The Street Outreach Worker will also conduct the Vulnerability Index-Service Prioritization Decision Assistance Tool (VI-SPDAT) assessments for all homeless clients to better understand their needs. Flexibility in working hours is essential, as outreach efforts may require evenings and weekends to effectively engage with the homeless community. The position requires the provision of tangible items such as food, clothing, hygiene products, and blankets to those in need. The Street Outreach Worker will also connect program participants to a Care Service Social Service Worker for case management, ensuring they have access to emergency shelter and long-term housing options. Community education about the needs of the homeless will be part of the role, including participation in speaking engagements. The Street Outreach Worker will collaborate with various service providers, including schools and healthcare agencies, to enhance outreach efforts and establish a network of support for homeless individuals.
