About The Position

From homelessness to coming home, Pillars provides shelter, support, and solutions to address the housing needs in our community. The Street Outreach Worker is responsible for connecting with individuals to evaluate their needs and matching the client with community resources to ensure stable lifestyle. This Full Time position requires a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the clients and to be available when they need it the most. The person in this position may also fill in for Crisis Housing Advocates on 1st or 2nd shift at either of the shelters or the Resource Center.

Requirements

  • Relevant experience preferred, such as: A strong understanding of barriers specific to persons experiencing homelessness
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence
  • Experience working with people facing mental health struggles and/or challenges with addictions
  • Knowledge of community resources available to individuals and families who are low income and/or experiencing homelessness
  • Experience with various case management approaches and training (Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Informed Care, Client Centered approaches, etc.)
  • Possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license and clean driving record (as determined by Pillars’ insurance carrier)
  • Ability to travel locally, with access to a reliable vehicle and personal auto insurance which meets Pillars minimum requirements for liability (100/300/100)
  • This position is expected to work inclusively and respectfully within a diverse community and practice civility in the workplace.
  • In addition, this position requires strong oral, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills, demonstrated integrity, and the willingness to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • This position requires knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and related technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Has passion for the mission of Pillars and displays agency values: Respect, Collaboration, Empowerment and Grit.
  • Conduct outreach activities at various times throughout the day and evening. The expectation is that at least 50% of hours worked must be spent identifying individuals that are residing in areas not meant for human habitation.
  • Accurately document each interaction with or even sighting of a client into required databases, as well as Pillars client files.
  • Swiftly build trust with individuals to assess their living arrangements and health conditions; including mental health, physical health and/or substance abuse.
  • Develop recommendations for clients based on observations and facts gathered during the initial assessments.
  • Provide assistance and /or coverage at Crisis Housing Sites as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
