Job Summary: The Strategic Sourcing Specialist is responsible for our procurement efforts as it relates to new sales opportunities, new product development, and strategic initiatives, nationwide. Additionally, this person will be responsible for developing strong supplier relationships, price negotiation, and project-based requirements. This position will serve as an integral part to our Purchasing and Operation Departments, while also working with the Sales, Customer Service, and Accounting Departments. This person will report directly to the Purchasing Manager. Job responsibilities are as follows:

Requirements

Minimum 5 years of purchasing and/or sourcing experience.
Degree in Supply Chain, Purchasing, or like Certificates required.
Working knowledge and experience with freight and logistics.
Negotiation skills including the ability to work with vendors to achieve a desirable outcome for the business is paramount.
The ability to manage multiple projects, with strong prioritization skills, is required. This includes strong communication skills between Purchasing Manager, Buyers, Sales, and Customer Service.
Required soft skills for the position include management, teamwork, organization, time management, creativity, and communication skills.
The ability to work well under pressure with time sensitive requests.
Additionally, strong analytical skills are required for cost analysis and cost savings.
The ability to read and analyze data across different platforms is a must.
Technical Skills include intermediate experience with the Microsoft Office Suite of products.
ERP experience required.
This position is posted as a hybrid office position. A minimum 3-4 days in the office is required.

Nice To Haves

Experience in purchasing & sourcing within the packaging industry preferred.
Overseas sourcing with an understanding of ANSI & PPE products a plus. This includes knowledge of importing product.
Epicor Prophet 21 experience a plus.

Responsibilities

Work with Sales and Customer Service to qualify oncoming business/awarded sales projects, from a supplier & supply chain standpoint.
Spearhead sourcing efforts, with a competitive urgency, for new opportunities brought on by sales, to include multiple supplier & item options, and put sales in the best position to land the business.
Develop business relationships with new and current suppliers to increase network and leverage cost savings through negotiation.
Serve as an integral part to project-based container/production projects as it pertains to new markets.
Help manage costs to strategically drive them down throughout the organization. This includes review of product, freight, and operating costs.
Nourish and develop new supplier relationships both regionally and nationally with the aid of the Purchasing Manager.
Help maintain price files from over 200 suppliers within our ERP system, with accuracy, including different cost structures, discounts, and potential rebates.
Assist with the placement, confirmation, and receiving of purchase orders.
Report generation for cost analysis, cost savings, and proposed scenarios to reduce inventory costs.
Develop a working knowledge of industry economics and regulatory environmental issues that may impact pricing, supply, or supplier performance.
