About The Position

Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google's bottom line. As a Commodity Manager, you will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for ASICs (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits) spanning ML, networking, and CPU products. Your role is critical in driving next-generation technologies, ensuring a stable supply of high-quality components at exceptional business terms, and supporting the company's product development and manufacturing goals. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a Technical or Engineering field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in procurement and supply chain management.
  • Experience in custom silicon category or commodity management, agreement negotiation and supplier development.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or Master's degree in a Technical or Engineering field.
  • 7 years of experience in sourcing, procurement, or supply chain management, with a focus on electronics components or semiconductors.
  • Experience with data center ASICs and custom silicon commodities.
  • Experience in managing supplier relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive global sourcing strategies for custom silicon by analyzing market trends, participant landscapes, and sub-tier supplier capabilities (e.g., wafer fab, assembly, and test) to align with business objectives.
  • Lead the identification, qualification, and contract negotiation of potential suppliers through due diligence, while fostering long-term collaborative partnerships to ensure favorable terms and open communication.
  • Drive the full ASIC lifecycle from architecture definition and business awards to NPI production ramps and end-of-life (EOL) ensuring seamless alignment across Engineering, Finance, and Legal teams.
  • Maximize value through expert-level cost modeling and value engineering initiatives, identifying key cost drivers and implementing reduction strategies to optimize the overall supply chain spend.
  • Maintain high standards for quality, delivery, and cost by monitoring supplier performance metrics and executing data-driven improvement plans and risk mitigation strategies.
