About The Position

The Strategic Sourcing Category Director – Promotional Merchandise owns category outcomes across the Americas for a major spend domain covering Promotional Premium Merchandise. In this role you will set the category vision, supplier panel strategy, governance model, and performance standards. You will partner directly with senior stakeholders to deliver multi-year savings, profitability, and risk management results.

Requirements

  • 12+ years in procurement/category leadership, preferably with marketing materials, packaging, print, displays, or premiums.

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio strategy & governance
  • Define category roadmaps, supplier panel design, and the operating rhythm (QBRs, performance standards, escalation pathways).
  • Set policy for preferred supplier compliance, exceptions, and client-specific overlays (e.g., FSC, color management, sampling SLAs).
  • Develop high-impact executive presentations to secure leadership approval for panel design, commercial models, and transformation initiatives.
  • Commercial architecture
  • Lead high-impact commercial frameworks: rebates/fees, rate-card strategies, indexation, service-level credits, and implementation controls.
  • Protect profitability through disciplined scope control, value engineering, and pricing governance.
  • Executive stakeholder leadership
  • Influence Account Leadership and buying team adoption; resolve conflicts between speed, cost, quality, and compliance.
  • Present category performance to senior leadership with crisp financial narratives.
  • Present category performance, commercial frameworks, and strategic supplier initiatives to senior leadership and key client stakeholders.
  • Represent the sourcing function in QBRs and strategic client reviews.
  • Supplier ecosystem leadership
  • Own top-tier supplier relationships; negotiate strategic agreements and performance improvement programs.
  • Drive innovation: materials, sustainability options, manufacturing process improvements, and standardization.
  • Team leadership
  • Develop Category Managers/Senior CMs; enforce best practices and a consistent sourcing methodology.
