This internship offers graduate students a unique opportunity to apply financial and regulatory analysis skills to real-world affordable housing finance challenges over their winter break. The intern will work on a project in one of two areas: Financial statement analysis: in-depth review of property-level financials Regulatory research: close reading and detailed analysis of regulatory texts Candidates with strengths in either area are encouraged to apply. A background in both is not expected. You will receive coaching and support on how to: • Define challenging operational, financial, and policy problems • Synthesize complex and unstructured quantitative and qualitative information to inform decision-making • Collaborate in a cross-functional environment with professionals from different disciplines • Communicate analysis and recommendations in time-constrained environments The Strategic Operations Intern will support the Chief Strategy Officer’s team in the President’s Office and report to the VP for Strategic Operations. You’ll collaborate with colleagues across HDC to address high-impact strategic issues. Interns receive mentorship from team leadership and gain exposure to executive-level decision-making. Recent projects or issues on which the team has worked include: an evaluation of a legacy middle-income affordable housing program, development of proposals to streamline the moving of formerly homeless households into permanent affordable housing, crafting successful recommendations to reduce federal administrative barriers in the lease-up process, structuring a new equity-enhancing loan guarantee with an external financial institution, and investigating solutions to rising insurance costs in multifamily affordable housing.
