About The Position

The Financial/Senior Strategic Analyst will report to the Strategic Finance Director for MPC and be responsible for financial analysis of major capital projects, joint ventures, acquisitions, and divestitures related to company initiatives. This requires significant collaboration with business partners, including Strategy and Business Development, Refining, Commercial, Renewables, Business Planning & Analysis, Controllers, Econ, and Logistics. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate their knowledge of financial modeling and analysis skills and be comfortable presenting information to senior leadership. This position will gain broad exposure to senior leadership, technical subject matter experts, investment banking partners, as well as internal and external peers across all business segments. The successful candidate should also have an understanding of finance, accounting or project analysis, including familiarity with net present value (NPV) and internal rate of return (IRR). Additionally, it would be helpful to understand statistical analysis, risk management and Monte Carlo analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting required.
  • Three (3) years of experience in Finance, or related field required.

Nice To Haves

  • Majors in Finance, Accounting, Other Business, or Engineering with related experience are preferred.
  • Experience with Excel spreadsheet applications.
  • Experience with simulation modeling tools, such as Oracle Crystal Ball is preferred.
  • Experience with financial modeling and/or analytical analysis preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide financial modeling, analysis and consultation to MPC and MPLX business units regarding major capital investments, including developing financial models including refinery portfolio analysis and Authorization Requests.
  • "Own" the project for Finance, including developing financial models, creating various scenarios, evaluating key drivers / risks, developing presentation materials, and drafting documents for approval.
  • Participate as an active member of cross-functional teams, evaluating major capital projects, joint ventures, acquisitions, and divestitures within MPC and MPLX.
  • Be knowledgeable of, and provide interpretation of, MPC's Policies and Financial Approval Authority.
  • Support the Investment Risk Analysis process, leveraging Monte Carlo techniques to quantify a range of returns based upon varying key value drivers for investments.
  • Assist in preparation of Post Expenditure Review reports for selected investments as requested by management.
