About The Position

Summary: The “Strategic Electrical Engineer” at BASX plays a critical role in the Strategic Development & Testing Group with researching, designing, developing, and implementing new and emerging PLC based controls technologies, solving the hardest engineering problems, and supporting the development of new products and systems. This senior-level engineering position requires a strong foundation in mechanical and electrical engineering, with a focus on product innovation and engineering development. The role supports strategic initiatives by supporting complex engineering projects and mentoring engineering teams. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise and a proactive approach to solving design and manufacturing challenges. Primary duties may include, but are not limited to: Support engineering projects to develop new PLC based control strategies and sequence of operations Develop and test PLC programs across multiple platforms (Carel, Automated Logic, Allen Bradley, etc.) Develop new protocols and standards for the process of design reviews on new products Generate proposals for new product development and research projects including objective, methodology, timeline, budget, and expected outcome Develop and maintain a roadmap for components and equipment used in the electrical and controls departments Collaboration with the department managers and procurement to develop an approved vendor/components standard and tier level Identify potential acquisition targets for complimentary technology and intellectual property Design, engineer and program product prototypes Develop and test new electrical components for use in UL508A panel design

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related industry experience
  • 7+ years of experience in product engineering, UL508A , HVAC or a related industry.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Autodesk) and engineering analysis tools
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer principles
  • Extensive background in DDC & PLC programming strategies. (e.g. Ladder Logic, Function Block and Structured Text)
  • Excellent problem-solving, project management, and communication skills
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and industry standards
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and certification processes or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background
  • Communicates effectively in written and spoken form.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Exhibits good decision making and analytical problem solving abilities.
  • Demonstrates strong multi-tasking capabilities and organizational skills.
  • Works effectively in a team environment.
  • Works effectively in a fast-paced high-pressure environment.

  • Sit or stand for up to 95 percent of work hours.
  • Periodic visits to the manufacturing facility with seasonal hot and cold temperatures, dust, and some chemical fume exposure.

Responsibilities

  • Support engineering projects to develop new PLC based control strategies and sequence of operations
  • Develop and test PLC programs across multiple platforms (Carel, Automated Logic, Allen Bradley, etc.)
  • Develop new protocols and standards for the process of design reviews on new products
  • Generate proposals for new product development and research projects including objective, methodology, timeline, budget, and expected outcome
  • Develop and maintain a roadmap for components and equipment used in the electrical and controls departments
  • Collaboration with the department managers and procurement to develop an approved vendor/components standard and tier level
  • Identify potential acquisition targets for complimentary technology and intellectual property
  • Design, engineer and program product prototypes
  • Develop and test new electrical components for use in UL508A panel design
  • Aid in the assembly and wiring of product prototypes and testing apparatuses
  • Engage with customers to define concepts and develop engineered solutions for high complexity sales opportunities
  • Develop testing plans, scripts, and apparatuses for testing and R&D projects
  • Assist R&D Technicians with performing tests on prototype equipment and components
  • Compile and analyze testing data and generate reports for prototype tests to validate functionality and provide guidance on product improvements
  • Author technical white papers to support implementation and application of new and emerging technologies
  • Ensure compliance with multiple UL and NFPA standards. (e.g. UL508A, UL1995, UL60335)
  • Develop & author new engineering & construction standards and practices within the BASX engineering group
  • Mentor and guide Solutions and Products engineering teams on technical and project-related tasks
  • Maintain accurate documentation including BOMs, drawings, and technical reports
