About The Position
The Strategic Design Engineering (SDE) Program Manager at Apple plays a crucial role in partnering with cross-functional product teams to develop and introduce innovative products that are both high-quality and cost-effective. This position is centered around supporting premium products while also focusing on cost-sensitive products through Design to Cost and Design to Value strategies. The SDE will engage with various teams, including Hardware Engineering, Product Design, Marketing, and Global Supply Management, to establish structural cost targets that align with business pricing and margin goals. In this role, the Program Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing cost strategies and roadmaps from the early architecture and proof of concept stages through to engineering builds and product ramp-up. This includes conducting detailed trade-off analyses and challenging existing cost assumptions to drive innovative solutions that enhance cost efficiency. The SDE will dive deep into design details and supply chain considerations to propose alternatives that meet both design and cost requirements. Additionally, the Program Manager will lead discussions on supplier selection and initial supplier engagement, driving product cost optimization through competitive product analysis and comprehensive cost estimation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in electrical engineering commodities and technologies, particularly in areas such as displays, PCBs, batteries, and power components, and will have a proven track record in program management and cross-functional collaboration.
