About The Position

In the role of Strategic Communications Intern, we'll count on you to gain experience by providing strategic communications and public engagement support on a variety of transportation, infrastructure, and water management projects. You will assist in the development and execution of strategic communications efforts for strategic communications planning, content creation, graphic design materials, email newsletters, in-person events, traditional and social media, and stakeholder engagement. Participation in offsite activities, meetings or events for in-person engagement opportunities, such as client strategy meetings, public meetings, and canvassing efforts is expected. You will exhibit strong writing and verbal communication skills, assist in documentation efforts for stakeholder interactions, meetings, and other tasks. A high emotional intelligence and a customer-service attitude are essential to support positive, on-point interactions with the public and clients. You will develop and strengthen time management skills to effectively balance deadlines from several ongoing projects, participate in frequent strategic communications team meetings, and perform assignments under the supervision of a strategic communications or business development team member. Additionally, you will connect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professional programs, and perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Attention to detail is a must.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Commitment to being an active participant in the employee-owned culture.

Nice To Haves

  • Final school year in obtaining a bachelor’s degree in a communications-related field.
  • Basic Adobe design suite software expertise.
  • Involvement with PRSSA, PRSA, IPRA, or other professional groups.
  • Previous work, internship, or leadership experience in communications.
  • Interest in working in government, transportation, transit, and water industries.
  • Local candidates preferred.
