About The Position

At Lam, as a Strategic Commodity Manager, you play a crucial role in managing industry suppliers in specific commodity space, i.e.: COTS (Commercial off the shelf parts) - Catalog parts, Proprietary OEM Parts & Distribution (Motors, Pressure switches, Pumps, Fasteners, and Power Supply). You’ll develop and implement commodity strategies, align development deliverables, benchmark suppliers, negotiate agreements, and resolve delivery, cost, and production challenges. Navigating a highly visible and dynamic environment, your strategic expertise in implementing initiatives will support commodity availability, quality, and cost to maintain Lam's reliability and competitive edge.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or a technical field listed herein (but not limited to) the following: Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Industrial Engineering, with 12 years of related experience; or 12 years and a Master's degree; or 8 years with a PhD.
  • 10 years of experience in a Supply Chain, Operations, or production/planning environment. Preferably in Semiconductor industry.
  • Supplier Market Intelligence & Development: Continuously monitor global & regional markets to identify potential suppliers and emerging technologies.
  • Evaluate new suppliers based on organizational maturity, technological capability, production capacity, quality systems, and financial stability.
  • Commerical Negotiation Excellence: Demonstrate strong negotiation skills to effectively manage commodity spend and mitigate price increases.
  • Ability to understanding technical documents (i.e., specifications/schematics/drawings) and function within semiconductor manufacturing tools Exceptional interpersonal relationship skills and professional level of emotional intelligence necessary to achieve the desired objective deliverables.
  • Proven experience of strong analytical and problem-solving skills with history of successful resolution.
  • Excellent analytical and written/oral communication skills with ability to communicate cross functionally and with various levels of the organization, including executives.
  • Geman knowledge would be an advantage and work & communicate in a cross-culture environment.
  • International travel required.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement commodity strategy, including long range capacity planning for 3+ years into the future.
  • Take material sourcing decisions and be accountable for performance against cost, quality, and lead time goals.
  • Onboard new suppliers considering evaluation of capability, implementation of legal contracts, assessment of financial risks, establishment of performance reviews.
  • Evaluate supplier reliability and develop new supply sources where vendors or suppliers are no longer competitive.
  • Set improvement plans and follow up for results.
  • Gather quotations, evaluate bids, and consider various supplier performance metrics to award business.
  • Evaluate risk of ongoing availability of material, address obsolescence, and last time buys. Implement stocking strategies and contracts to mitigate future availability and supply chain risks.
  • Forecast cost impacts, approve pricing changes, and negotiate cost reduction with suppliers.
  • Interact with engineering, manufacturing, and other groups to understand cross functional impacts of design and manufacturing strategy decisions.
  • Work cross functionally with Supply Chain Operations, Logistics and all groups involved to minimize supply chain disruptions.
