About The Position

Google's projects, like our users, span the globe and require managers to keep the big picture in focus while being able to dive into the unique engineering challenges we face daily. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers. Using your extensive technical and leadership expertise, you manage various Engineering-specific programs and teams. As a Strategic Planning Lead, you will be developing and running the capacity planning function for Google's third-party data center delivery. You will be scaling Google's AI and Cloud compute capacity to meet projected demands, which is crucial given the limitations of conventional delivery models. You will act as the single source of truth for ISD E2 capacity commitments, ensuring seamless integration and alignment across key verticals including demand planning, site acquisition, engineering, finance, and procurement to accelerate delivery, mitigate supply chain risk, and strategically leverage external market dynamics. This function is vital for managing the complex, non-traditional agreement structures and evolving technical requirements (GPU/TPU) inherent in securing third-party capacity. Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in program management.
  • 8 years of experience in infrastructure planning, capacity strategy, supply chain management, or technical program management within the data center, cloud computing, or related technology industries.
  • 8 years of experience in data center mechanical/electrical and the technical constraints/fungibility limitations posed by specialized hardware (e.g., GPU/TPU machine generations).
  • 8 years of experience with mission critical, real estate development cycles, or capital expenditure (CapEx) planning.
  • 7 years of experience in leadership roles with/without direct reports.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or Master’s degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 8 years of experience with data analysis, modeling, and visualization tools to drive actionable insights from large, complex datasets to align capital deployment with strategic business objectives.
  • Experience leading cross-functional planning processes and running high-stakes executive-level reviews (e.g., monthly/quarterly capacity commitment reviews).
  • Track record of building and managing quantitative problem-solving models for high-variability supply/demand forecasting and resource allocation.
  • Ability to develop scenario planning and contingency models for infrastructure deployment, optimizing for scale, cost, constraints, and risk.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead the capacity planning function for ISD E2 delivery, covering both near-term and long-term (AI/Cloud) forecasts to ensure a robust and adaptable supply pipeline.
  • Serve as the single source of truth for all ISD E2 capacity commitments, providing regular, concise communication on project status, risks, and opportunities to internal customer and stakeholder leadership.
  • Develop and manage a market intelligence function specifically focused on data center landscape, analyzing competitor activity, financial health, build-out rates, and regional supply/demand concentrations to inform strategy.
